Kershaw has been paid more than $294 million over his 16-year career, and he has always taken less than his market value so he could remain with the Dodgers. He, too, has won three Cy Young Awards. He has led the league in wins three times and in E.R.A. five times. He’s even posted an E.R.A. under 2.50 in three of the past four years while battling injuries to his shoulder, back, elbow and everywhere else. He had shoulder surgery earlier this month and will miss most of next season, but he says he’s hopeful to return.
